Fortescue Metals Group, one of Australia\u2019s three largest mining companies has pledged to reduce emissions across its entire global value chain, in a bid to achieve net-zero scope 3 emissions by 2040. Fortescue aims to reduce emissions from steelmaking by 7.5% by 2030, and 100% by 2040. By 2030, the company plans to reduce emissions from its ore shipping operations by 50%, as its fleet of ore carriers will operate using green ammonia, and future carriers are to use ammonia during production. The company has also pledged to using renewable energy and green hydrogen in its steel and iron production, and eliminate the use of coal in low-temperature iron and cement production. Fortescue\u2019s rivals, Rio Tinto and BHP are now under pressure to produce their own emission reduction plans, as BHP\u2019s goals emission reduction goals notably omitted their Asian steel mills, which produce the greatest proportion of its own scope 3 emissions.<\/p>\n\n
