The ongoing strike of Newmont\u2019s Pe\u00f1asquito gold-silver operation is posing significant risks to Mexico\u2019s fragile mining sector, warned the country\u2019s Chamber of Mines. Around 2,000 unionised workers have halted operations since 8 June, contesting profit-sharing agreements and alleged contract infringements. The strike has compelled Newmont to declare force majeure on deliveries of some metal products from the country\u2019s biggest mine in Zacatecas state. The strike is the third labour conflict at the site since Newmont\u2019s acquisition of the mine in 2019.<\/p>\n\n
