On 13 January 2025, Mali is set to receive 750 billion CFA francs ($1.2 billion) from miners in the first quarter of 2025, following an overhaul of its mining sector. This follows a December payment of 500 billion CFA francs after negotiations with mining companies, as stated by Finance Minister Alousseni Sanou in a speech to Parliament.<\/p>\n

The overhaul has intensified scrutiny on international miners, with demands for back taxes and dividends revealing revenue shortfalls of up to 600 billion CFA francs. Australia\u2019s Resolute Mining settled a $160 million tax dispute, while Barrick Gold faces claim of $512 million in unpaid taxes, rejecting the allegations.
