BHP is set to increase its nickel production at its Mount Keith nickel mine in Western Australia by 40%. BHP is looking to increase production in response to an increase in demand for nickel with BHP’s Munt Keith nickel mine being well positioned to support the emerging battery sector. BHP have stated that they have discovered that nickel is the most important metal to produce high-intensity batteries for electric. The Mount Keith mine is expecting to increase operation by expanding to a 15 million tonne per annum operation and will initially look to increase the mining activity at Mount Keith by 50 per cent.
