Canadian mining company New Gold has resumed underground mining at its New Afton gold-copper mine in Kamloops, British Columbia. New Gold temporarily paused operations upon discovering some geotechnical variances during an inspection. After conducting a thorough review on 10 August, the engineer certified the structural integrity of the mine’s tailings storage facility. Notably, milling activities remained operational, with in-pit tailings deposition proceeding as scheduled. New Gold emphasised that New Afton is on track to achieve its annual production and cost targets set earlier.
