Canada-based mining company Barrick Gold has unveiled a 10-year plan for its Kibali mine operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The company plans to capitalise on Kibali’s status as Africa’s largest gold mine and Tier One asset to ramp up its production capacity over the next decade. The company also plans to strengthen Kibali’s renewable energy infrastructure, increasing the hydropower contribution to the mine’s energy grid from 79% to 88% with a new 16MW solar farm. This also ensures the mine’s operation is fully powered by renewable energy during the wet season.
