Norge Mining Discovers 70bn Tonnes Of Phosphate Rock Reserves In Southwest Norway

Mining company Norge Mining has reportedly discovered an estimated 70 billion tonnes of phosphate rock in southwest Norway. According to the company, the amount could potentially meet the demand for key components in batteries and solar panels for the next half-century. Prior to this, the largest known reserves were in the western Sahara region of Morocco. The European Commission welcomed the discovery as it aligns with the objectives of the Commission’s proposal on the Critical Raw Material Act. Phosphorous is now on the European Union’s list of minerals of importance to the economy.
