According to statements from Russian Government officials, it is projected that Russian coal exports to the Asia Pacific region are to increase by 174 million tons (or 1.5 times) by 2025. The main export destinations in the region will be India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and China, with Russian reports citing soaring demand. Russia’s export revenue from coal accounts for around 4% of total export revenue, with a total of 338 million tons of thermal coal and 103 million tons of coking coal produced and exported. However, global consumption of thermal coal is decreasing in light of growing demand for renewables.
