Australia gold production for the first six months of 2021 has surpassed China for the same period. From January to June of 2021, Australia produced 157 tonnes of gold while China produced 153 tonnes of gold for the same period. The increased production in Australia is reported to be in part due to its new and existing operations increasing output. According to US Geological data, China has been leading the world in gold production since 2007 when it overtook South Africa while Australia has been the world’s second largest producer of gold.
