Imerys And British Lithium Partner to Extract Lithium, Targeting to Meet 2/3 Of Uk’s Battery Demand By 2030

With the financial support from the UK’s government, Imerys and British Lithium have partnered to extract lithium from a granite mine in Cornwall. Imerys has acquired an 80% stake in British Lithium to form this partnership. The project, which is scheduled to begin in late 2028, aims to meet two-thirds of Britain’s battery demand by 2030. It is believed that the lithium carbonate produced could fuel approximately 500,000 vehicles by the end of the decade. Imerys CEO Alessandro Dazza expected that a substantial investment is needed for the project, the specifics of which are yet to be disclosed.
